Canvas basics.
- Select
- Click an object. Drag on empty space to box select many at once. Ctrl A grabs everything on the artboard.
- Right click
- The menu for the selection: Group, Ungroup, Bring to front, Send to back, Copy, Paste, Duplicate, Delete. Right clicking a selected object keeps the whole selection.
- Align and distribute
- With 2 or more selected, the right click menu grows six align buttons: left, horizontal centers, right, top, vertical centers, bottom. With 3 or more, two distribute buttons space them evenly.
- Groups
- Double click steps INTO a group, one level per double click. A dashed outline shows which group you are inside. Escape steps back out.
- Move and transform
- Drag to move, corner handles resize, the top handle rotates. A multi selection moves, rotates and scales together, each object around its own pivot.
- Anchor point
- Drag the small anchor handle to move an object's pivot. Rotation and scale turn around it, both while editing and on the timeline.
- Snapping
- Always on: edges, centers, equal spacing, path nodes and the artboard, with guide lines as you move. Hold Alt or Ctrl to go free. Shift constrains dragging to straight lines, locks the aspect while resizing, and steps rotation by 15. Rotation also magnets at 0, 45 and 90 on its own.
- Layers
- The left drawer lists every layer by name. Drag rows to reorder stacking, Ctrl click to multi select, right click a row for front and back.
- Pan and zoom
- Hold Space and drag to pan, or use the middle mouse button. Scroll to zoom at the cursor. The buttons top right zoom and fit the view.
